Left Wing Fuel Tank Wrap-up

July 15, 2024 by admin Leave a Comment

Good day, today I’m going to update you with the last little bit of work I did to finish up the left wing fuel tank. But before we get into that, there was some holiday updates that happened first. Most significantly was that my dad came for a 2 week visit. While we did get a little bit of shop time to build, we also had some other fun adventures.

First up was that I got to take my dad flying with me as a passenger for the first time since getting my license a couple years ago, and this was also his first time up in a GA aircraft, which was also really exciting to share with him.

After our flight that morning we also hit the road to do some sightseeing throughout the Rocky Mountains.

As we passed through Vernon, BC, we had a lovely lunch at a lakeside restaurant called the 1516 Pub & Grill. The food, atmosphere and overall experience here were fantastic! Can’t wait to return! It sure would be great to fly the F1 Rocket here one day.

Once we returned from some well deserved vacation, we got some time in the shop and I finished up the flop tube installation which needed the addition of the anti-rotation bracket.

Then the final part that needed to go on the left fuel tank was the vent line clip on the forward side of the fuel filler cap assembly.

Work begins on the Right Fuel Tank

And just like that, I get to start much of this work all over again but on the other fuel tank. Thankfully, I’ve already got most of the root rib plumbing done which is a bonus. Having to pick where to start, it seemed the most convenient was to begin with the layout of the right tank ribs, and all the various holes that needed to be drilled as part of the rib prep. This was also a good place to get dad to help me with the measurements and layout marking.

It was sure nice having him out for a visit. I’m excited for his next visit because there will be a lot more visual progress to show him. All in all he was totally impressed. I think we homebuilders take our hobby for granted at times as we are so familiar with it. But for the outsiders, when they see this crazy ass shit that we do...this artwork we are creating and bringing into the world, it really is quite something. There are many people who are extremely impressed when the come into the shop for the first time and see that I’m building an actual airplane…to fly in!

That’s all for today folks! Please comment. I love to hear from my readers.  Thanks again for coming along for this ride, you make my work worthwhile.
